EMBER / WAVE R/S BOX
Very happy with this product...Its lightweight and is easy to mount to camera and with a very small footprint it doesn’t foul or get in the way of any of the current rigging / accessories with have for our Ember camera. Fantastic delivery all the way to Australia in record time too…thanks guys !
Overall I am quite grateful for this as there weren't many good trigger options for the Freefly S5k. I also appreciate that it uses a 3.5mm Aux connector for the trigger button as it is very easy to get extension cables of varying lengths for hardwired remote trigger.
The main three gripes I have are these:
A - The data cable that goes from the R/S box to the camera is extremely flimsy and hard to disconnect from the ports. I usually have to use a plastic tool to assist. The cord also leaves the ends open near the connector and it feels like they could come disconnected with a slight amount of energy exerted. With the cable was a bit more sturdy and easy to pug & unplug for easy camera build & teardown.
B - The plastic RS box rattles and gets loose on the mount a bit easily. I can secure the mount itself just fine to the cage, but the box itself feels a bit finicky and I am bit worried about long term use. Maybe find a more solid means of securing it to the mount?
C - It would be nice if there was a package available that included power cables for the RS box. I had to go source the correct 2 pin limo cable from Alvin's cables, but would have gladly bought both d-tap & USB-C to 2 pin cables through Mutiny if they were available.
Overall happy with the purchase! Has made for some great quality of life improvements with operating the Freefly camera.
Thank you for the review. To answer your grips. A) Freefly chose that connector. We also wish they picked something more robust. Its not something we can force them to change. B) A bit of locktight on the screw will hold the box permantly to the mounting plate. We dont pre locktite it incase someone needs to flip the box direction for mounting as it has that option. C) we sell all those cables. We dont bundle them as everyone wants something diffrent in length etc.
Thank you for your purchase.
I wish Mutiny had pictures of the cables' terminals -- along with a description, so you could visually check for compatibility.
The currently layout with a slide show is a bit confusing, and the photos do not sure the pin config.
I had a difficult time ordering the right cable, but that was definitely my fault, as I picked the wrong cable.
My three star rating is more for the ordering experience and for the web-design and definitely not a slight against the quality. Mutiny's products as are awesome and this page could use a bit of work.
Mutiny makes great products and I still enjoying using their stuff!
